The other day, I heard a pastor preach a sermon, and he said, and I paraphrase, "The worst thing that ever happened in human history wasn’t a war, a natural disaster, or a global crisis. It was the brutal, unjust execution of the only perfect man to ever walk the earth—Jesus Christ". We all know He betrayed, beaten, mocked, and nailed to a cross, the Son of God suffered a death He did not deserve. The world went dark. Hope seemed lost. Evil appeared to have won.
But that moment—when all seemed broken beyond repair—was the turning point of all eternity. The death of Jesus Christ wasn’t just the worst tragedy; it was the greatest triumph. What looked like defeat was the doorway to victory. What looked like loss was the foundation of eternal gain. What appeared to be the end was only the beginning.
Because of Jesus's death, our sins can be forgiven, our broken relationship with God restored, and eternal life is now possible for everyone who believes. Once a symbol of shame and suffering, the cross has become a symbol of hope, grace, and love. What man meant for evil, God used for the ultimate good.
Romans 8:28 (LSB) says, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” If God can take the worst moment in history—the death of His Son—and use it to redeem the world, He can surely handle your situation.
Your sin? He can forgive it.
Your circumstances? He can use them.
Your health struggles? He can sustain you through them.
Your financial burdens? He can provide in ways you never expected.
Your wayward child? He can bring them home.
The cross reminds us that no situation is too dark, broken, or far gone for God to redeem. Jesus's death proves that God doesn’t just bring good despite the bad—He brings good through it.
So, if you're facing something right now that feels like the end, remember: God does His best work in what seems like the worst moments. Trust Him. He’s still in the business of turning crosses into crowns, graves into gardens, and brokenness into beauty.
What was once the worst became the best, and the same God is working in your life today.
In Love,
Pastor Jody
