Don’t Waste What God Has Given You
As a pastor, I see something that breaks my heart week after week. God has given us incredible privileges, but many of us waste them. We hold in our hands the living Word of God. We have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of us. We have the church, the very body of Christ. And we have fellowship with other believers who are supposed to sharpen us and hold us up. These are priceless gifts, and yet too often we treat them like they are ordinary.
God’s Word
We live in a time when the Bible is more accessible than ever. You can carry it on your phone, listen to it in your car, or open it in the morning with your coffee. There is no excuse. And yet, many Christians go days, even weeks, without opening it. The Word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword. It is food for your soul, light for your path, and truth for your life. If you are not in the Word daily, you are wasting one of the greatest privileges God has ever given.
The Holy Spirit
When Jesus told His disciples that it was better for Him to leave so that the Spirit would come, He was saying something profound. The Spirit of God now lives inside every believer, guiding us, convicting us, strengthening us. But many of us ignore Him. We quench His voice, drown Him out with the noise of the world, and try to live this Christian life in our own strength. You cannot do it on your own. Without walking in the Spirit, you will fail every time. Stop wasting His presence.
The Church
The church is not a building you go to once a week. It is the people of God, the bride of Christ, the family you are called to belong to. In the early church, they devoted themselves daily to the Word, fellowship, communion, and prayer. Today, many believers treat church as optional—something you attend if you don’t have anything else going on. Let me be blunt: if you can skip church for sports, hobbies, or sleeping in, then you are wasting the privilege of being part of God’s people. The church is where you grow, where you serve, and where you’re held accountable.
Fellowship
Too many of us live isolated Christian lives. We come in, sit in a chair on Sunday, and then go right back to living in secret struggles the rest of the week. That is not biblical fellowship. God designed us to carry one another’s burdens, to confess our sins to each other, and to sharpen one another like iron sharpens iron. Fellowship is not small talk; it is soul talk. If you are hiding your sin and trying to do this on your own, then you are wasting the blessing of fellowship.
Don’t Waste It
Church, hear me. God has given us everything we need to live this Christian life with power, victory, and joy. His Word, His Spirit, His church, and His people. Don’t waste it. Open your Bible. Walk in the Spirit. Commit to your church. Go deep in fellowship. Stop treating the things of God as common, because they are holy.
If we would stop wasting what God has given, we would see revival in our homes, in our churches, and in our communities. The problem is not that God has not provided—it is that His people are neglecting what He already gave.
Let’s change that.
Soli Deo gloria,
Pastor Jody
