The Less Truth You Know, the Easier It Will Be to Be Led Astray
We live in a time where deception doesn’t come dressed in red horns and a pitchfork—it comes dressed in half-truths, emotional slogans, and spiritual counterfeits. It sounds good. It feels right. It even quotes Scripture… but slightly twisted. And that’s the danger.
Pastor Anthony Philip Mitchell said it clearly: “The less truth you know, the easier it will be to be led astray.”
That’s not just a good quote—it’s a spiritual warning.
The Battle for Truth Is Real
Satan’s first attack on mankind wasn’t with violence—it was with a lie. In the garden, he didn’t tell Eve, “There is no God.” He simply questioned God’s Word: “Did God really say…?” (Genesis 3:1). That one question opened the door to doubt, and doubt opened the door to disobedience. And nothing has changed.
Satan still works the same way today. He doesn’t need you to reject God entirely, he just needs you to be unsure about the truth.
Biblical Illiteracy Is a Silent Epidemic
Let’s be honest, many Christians today know more about their favorite celebrity or sports team than they do about Scripture. We rely on podcasts, worship lyrics, and Instagram reels to disciple us, but those things can’t replace the Word of God.
Hosea 4:6 (LSB) declares, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”
Destroyed, not weakened, not bruised, destroyed. Why? Because when you don’t know the truth, you’ll fall for anything that sounds spiritual, sounds loving, or sounds logical.
That’s exactly why Paul tells Timothy:
“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15, LSB)
If you don’t know the Word, you can’t stand in the battle. And the battle is coming for every believer.
Truth Anchors Us in a World of Lies
The world is loud. And loud isn’t the same as right. Culture constantly shifts, and morality is redefined every generation. However, God’s Word remains unchanged.
Psalm 119:160 says, “The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments is everlasting.” (LSB)
That means the truth isn’t found in your feelings, your experiences, or your opinions. It’s found in the totality of God’s Word.
When we don’t fill our hearts with truth, we become vulnerable to every new teaching, every manipulative preacher, every trending TikTok theology. But when we know the truth, we can spot the lie.
Stay Rooted. Stay Sharp. Stay in the Word.
Don’t just attend church—know the Word. Don’t just sing the songs—study the Scriptures. Don’t just repost Christian quotes—learn the context.
The only way to not be led astray is to be led by the Spirit of Truth.
“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth...” (John 16:13, LSB)
You don’t have to be a pastor or theologian to know the truth, but you do have to be intentional. Read your Bible daily. Meditate on it. Pray it. Live it. Because if you don’t, someone else will shape your beliefs for you, and not everyone who speaks in Jesus’ name is sent by Him.
The less truth you know, the easier it will be to be led astray.
Don’t gamble with your soul. Know the Word. Love the Word. Stand on the Word.
Because in a world full of lies, truth isn’t just power—it’s protection.
In Love,
Pastor Jody
