If There Is Dust on Your Bible, There Is Dust on Your Heart
Let’s be honest, most of us own more Bibles than we use. They sit on shelves, in nightstands, in car trunks, or on coffee tables as decorations. But when was the last time we actually opened it? Not for a verse of the day. Not for a Sunday sermon. But for a soul-deep pursuit of the God who breathed life into its pages?
There’s an old saying: “If there’s dust on your Bible, there’s dust on your heart.” It’s convicting because it’s true. A Bible that goes untouched reveals something far deeper than forgetfulness—it reflects a heart that is slowly growing indifferent to the voice of God.
We were never meant to live on spiritual fumes. Jesus said, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4, LSB). That means if you’re not feeding on Scripture daily, your soul is starving—even if your life looks busy and full.
Too many believers try to fight spiritual battles without a weapon. They try to navigate temptation without direction. They try to overcome anxiety, fear, lust, pride, and pain without the Word that gives wisdom, peace, power, and hope. And then they wonder why they feel distant from God.
The Word of God is alive (Hebrews 4:12). It is truth (John 17:17). It is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). When we neglect it, we’re not just ignoring a book—we’re ignoring the voice of the God who speaks through it.
Maybe your life feels dry right now. Maybe your faith feels mechanical, your joy is fading, and your prayers feel weak. Look at your Bible. If it’s dusty, that’s probably not a coincidence.
A dusty Bible means a neglected heart. But the good news? It doesn’t have to stay that way. God is not waiting to condemn you—He’s waiting to meet you in the pages of His Word.
So wipe off the dust. Open it up. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak. Start again, today.
Because when you blow the dust off your Bible, something happens:
You start to blow the dust off your heart.
“With all my heart I have sought You; Do not let me stray from Your commandments. I have treasured Your word in my heart, So that I may not sin against You.”-Psalm 119:10–11 (LSB)
