Serving Others

Serving others is a fundamental principle in the Bible and is an important part of living a Christian life. From the earliest days of Christianity, believers have been called to serve others in the name of Jesus.

The Bible teaches that serving others is an act of love and obedience to God. In Matthew 25:40, Jesus says, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." This passage reminds us that when we serve others, we are serving Jesus himself. This is why it's important to follow Jesus everyday of our lives.

The Bible also teaches that serving others is a way to love and honor God. In Colossians 3:23-24, Paul writes, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." By serving others, we are showing our love and obedience to God. This is why it's important to get to know God in His word and prayer.

One of the most well-known examples of serving others in the Bible is the story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25-37. In this story, a man is beaten and left for dead on the side of the road. Two religious leaders pass by without helping, but a Samaritan, considered an outcast by the religious leaders of the time, stops to help the man and takes care of him. This story teaches us that serving others is not limited to certain people or groups, but is something that should be done for anyone in need. If you'll remember from our sermon, your neighbor is someone you have mercy on.

In addition to serving others through acts of kindness and charity, the Bible also teaches that serving others can be done through using our talents and abilities. In Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus tells the parable of the talents, in which a man entrusts his servants with talents (a unit of currency) and expects them to use them wisely and to increase them. The servants who used their talents to serve others were rewarded, while the one who did not use his talent was punished.

The Bible teaches that serving others is an act of love and obedience to God. We are called to serve others as a way to show our love for God and to honor him. Serving others is not limited to certain people or groups, but should be done for anyone in need. Additionally, the Bible teaches that we should use our talents and abilities to serve others and to increase them.

How can you serve someone today? Ask God to open your eyes and hearts to see someone on need.
