Prayer Is a Heart Issue

Prayer is more than words spoken into the air. It is the posture of a heart that knows its dependence on God. Prayer reveals where our trust really lies, whether in our own strength or in the God who holds all things together.

Much like physical exercise, prayer requires discipline. When you first begin, it might feel awkward, even tiring. But just as exercise strengthens the body, prayer strengthens the soul. The more we do it, the more natural it becomes. The more we pray, the more we want to pray. Our hearts begin to crave communion with God the same way our lungs crave air after a long run.

But prayer doesn’t stop at speaking. We must learn to look for the answers. Too many people pray, then move on as if nothing happened. They never slow down long enough to see how God might be responding. Sometimes His answers come in ways we don’t expect, a closed door, a change of heart, a word from Scripture, or a divine appointment that shifts our perspective.

Prayer is a dialogue, not a monologue. When you pray, open your Bible and let God speak through His Word. Pay attention to the people and circumstances He places in your path. Watch how He begins to align your desires with His will.

If prayer feels distant or dry, don’t give up. Keep at it. Every time you pray, you’re training your heart to depend on the Father. Over time, that dependence becomes joy.

As Paul wrote, “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17, LSB). That’s not a command to talk nonstop, it’s an invitation to live with an awareness of God’s presence in every moment.

So, keep praying. Keep seeking. Keep watching. Because prayer isn’t just an act of faith, it’s the heartbeat of your relationship with God.

Soli Deo Gloria,
